NEGLECT IS A FOUR LETTER WORD
[FOR THOSE ANGRY SOULS WHO SWEAR A LOT - THIS POST IS FOR YOU]
N
eglect is a powerful thing. I don’t know of anything else that erodes sense of self so effectively; broken down into tiny little criticizable factions, one no longer recognizes or places any value on that self as a whole.
It’s only ok to stay angry if you want to stay put. That’s the truth. If you’re intent on grinding yourself into powder, that has to stop. Tripping on a jump rope or accidentally getting your finger caught in a drawer is not good enough reason to bully yourself; you may very well transgress that ugliness upon others. And how does that play out?
That constant fist fight between old regrets and the fearful future ends up driving you mad. They make you doubt things you know to be true. If you doubt something fundamentally true and instead replace it with every possible, yet un-probable alternative, you will never know firm footing; a boat tossed wretchedly on the waves of the sea forever, tragically drifting away.
We either nourish our souls by what we allow in our heads or wither under the oppression of our own neglect. Weeds choke out a perfectly healthy garden and untended thoughts constrict any possibility of happiness.
And what is happiness, if not simply to know what is healthy, and choose it.
